Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) are designed to help protect electrical installations and connected equipment against transient overvoltages. They are commonly incorporated into distribution equipment in domestic, commercial and industrial installations, with the correct SPD type and configuration selected for the application.
RCDs (Residual Current Devices) provide protection by detecting an imbalance between live conductors and disconnecting the supply when specified conditions are reached. They are used within compatible distribution systems to provide residual current protection for groups of circuits or other appropriate applications.
kWh meters, also known as kilowatt-hour meters or energy meters, measure electrical energy consumption. They can be used for applications such as energy monitoring, sub-metering and recording electricity usage within commercial, industrial, residential and multi-occupancy installations.
Depending on the product range, metering options may include single phase and three phase kWh meters, including compact DIN rail mounted devices suitable for integration within compatible electrical distribution equipment.
These products are commonly used alongside distribution boards, consumer units, switchgear and circuit protection devices, allowing electricians and contractors to configure electrical distribution systems around the protection and metering requirements of the installation.
When selecting an SPD, RCD or kWh meter, check the system voltage, current rating, number of poles, device type, electrical supply configuration and compatibility with the distribution equipment. For energy meters, also consider whether single phase or three phase monitoring is required.
